CONTEXT

As a fun side project and as a Secret Santa gift for my boss, I adapted the original YouTube video "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared" into a children's storybook. My boss was a fan of the series, and the creators of the video had just released their fourth instalment of the series at the time. The goal was to make a gift for my boss that he liked.

CREATIVE CONCEPT

I chose to mimic the style of a children's storybook to preserve the same feeling of innocence from the original video. The format of the book was also made to flip like a notebook, similar to the notebook character in the video, with some pages in the book representing a page in a notebook.

 

Following the children's storybook style, the images were all done in a simplistic fashion, with no gradients in colour applied. However, as the storybook was a static medium in comparison to the video, the "get creative" portion was altered slightly, but the effect remained the same.

PROMOTIONAL RESULTS

My boss was very happy with his Secret Santa gift but he easily guessed my identity as the Secret Santa as only a few people on the team had the same passion for this series as he did.
